In the beginning of December, our stake at church (a regional group of congregations) held its annual display of nativities, along with musical performances. It's been going on for the last 14 years. Over 200 nativities are displayed (most from church and community members' personal collections). We decided it would be fun to take Ann this year now that she's old enough to start understanding about the Nativity story and the true meaning of Christmas. It was a perfect year to start taking her, as they had a new children's room set up with toy nativities the kids could play with, dress up clothes and a little craft. Overall, we enjoyed going.

We did try to go look around at the nativities set up, but Ann wasn't too interested in them and quickly pulled us back into the children's room :)
There are also performances going on in the chapel and cultural hall as well. There was a live nativity performance that I wanted to watch with Ann. My mom told me that in years past, this was just a quick 5 minute thing - someone reading the nativity story while people acted out what what happening - which I thought sounded perfect. However, this year someone decided to add a choir to the mix. So in addition to the reading of the story, there were several choir numbers. As a result, the performance lasted more like 20 minutes. Ann was tired so it was difficult to get her to sit still. Near the end as the "choir of angels" were singing, Ann decided she needed to dance to the music. We were in the gym so it was kind of loud having her stomp around. Whenever I tried to get her to stop, she would say loudly "I need to dance!". Funny to think back on now, but more embarrassing in the moment. Even still, it was fun to go and help Ann learn more about the Christmas story and why we celebrate Christmas.
