Life Continues On

I honestly cannot believe that our little Ian has been here for nearly 5 weeks.  It has flown by so quickly.  He is such a joy and we're so happy to have him be a part of our family.  I won't lie though - it has been hard adjusting to having two children.  Mostly, I find it hard to manage Ann when Ian is tired/hungry/otherwise in need of my attention (as these are the times she decides that she wants attention so she'll start to get into things she's not supposed to).  There's been a lot of frustration involved (I hope I'm not the only one who finds it hard to be patient when sleep-deprived), but it's slowly getting better as I try to figure out how to meet Ann's needs while taking care of a newborn.  We were very grateful to have Tom's mom come out here for a week at the beginning of the month.  And we are also enjoying having my sister Rebekah here with her family while her husband completes a month-long clinical rotation for medical school.  We will definitely miss having them here once they leave at the end of the month!

Here's a few pictures of life these last few weeks.  Poor Ian is already suffering from non-first-child syndrome (meaning that I haven't taken nearly as many pictures of him as I did of Ann when she was a baby).  Life is much more hectic and stressful right now, so I just forget to pull out the camera.  This is the first time I've really wished I had a smart phone, just so I could have a more convenient camera available.

I set Ian on the floor one day determined to take some pictures of him.  Of course he cried at first.  Got to keep it real :)

And then he was calm and cute for me :)

His poor little heels.  I think this was after about 3 weeks of healing (the scabs are all gone now).  Both of his heels were pricked a ton at the hospital because of the constant need to check his blood sugar.

Such a sweetie

Ann loves kissing her little boy (yes, she does call him her little boy, and she even says "little boy" in a baby-ish tone of voice)

Grandma Polley with her first grandson!

This girl seriously loves her little brother.  While she has been difficult for me lately, I am extremely grateful that she loves Ian so much

We do have a fair number of pictures of Ann kissing Ian

All wrapped up snug as a bug!  I decided that I wanted to try using a wrap to carry Ian around in hopes that I'd be less tied down if Ian was needing to be held.  My mom helped me pick out some fabric to use and overall I've liked it.  I think the fabric I picked was too stretchy (it's okay now while he's little, but I'll need something more sturdy as he grows bigger), but it's worked pretty well.  I even made a (simple, uncomplicated) dinner with him in it the other night.  It's just been nice to put him in there after he's eaten but wants to be held so I can still eat some lunch or whatnot.

I wanted to try and take more cute pictures of Ian while I was outside at my parents' house, but he was not as cooperative this time :)

"No mom, I will not look at the camera"

My parents bought a little kiddie pool for Ann and her cousin Archer to play in.  They wanted to come over and see what I was doing (which was taking the above pictures of Ian).

Archer wasn't too sure what to think of the pool

Deciding to make a break for it

Ann joined Ian one day during tummy-time

Sweet siblings

Ann wanted to help wrap him up...we definitely have to keep an eye on her with him so she doesn't accidentally love/"help" him too much :)
