Fourth of July Fail

So we didn't have too much planned to celebrate the Fourth of July today.  Our ward at church didn't have anything planned, plus the horrible heat and humidity made doing anything outside sound miserable anyway.  My parents offered to watch Ann for us while Tom and I went out, so we decided we'd go out to dinner and hang out together for a while.

We decided to go to a fun burger place called Newt's (because you know you have to have burgers on the 4th :)  As we drove there, we noticed downtown looked very empty.  And then we realized that Newt's (along with just about every other place to eat downtown) was closed.  Really??  The thought of checking to see if they were open never crossed our minds (why would they be closed??), so we hadn't even thought of a "plan B" for somewhere to go.  The only places open were the nicer restaurants, and since we didn't want to spend too much money, Tom suggested Buffalo Wild Wings.  We decided to call to make sure they were open and no one answered.  Okay...now on to plan C.  We at first were just going to resign ourselves to Culver's, but then we saw the billboard for Five Guys and decided that was a better option.  Luckily, they were open, so we went in and ordered out food (and chuckled at the fact that the potatoes for the fries today were from Rexburg, ID).

After we finished eating, we tried to think of something else to do.  We had about an hour before we planned to go pick up Ann from my parents, so we ended up going down to the mall to shop around a little. Once we got there, we found out the mall had already closed at 6pm (it was almost 7pm at this point).  So we finally resigned ourselves to the fact that there was no where else to go and just went back to my parents and hung out with them for a while until Ann started getting tired.

So the evening didn't quite go as planned, but at least we were able to get out and spend some time together.  We decided to forgo the fireworks tonight since Ann is still little and so it wouldn't be worth the effort.  Next year though will probably be different.

I hope everyone else has had a festive and fun holiday!!  Happy 4th of July!
