On Saturday we headed out to Lark Toy Store. It's a really neat store about 45 minutes away from where we live. We went there last year with Tom's parents, but decided to go this year again as Ann's older and would enjoy the experience more. Ann had fun playing with the kid size garden tools while Grandpa played with the puppets.
Of course our trip there wouldn't be complete without riding on the amazing carousel. Tom wasn't able to come with us last year, so we made sure he took a turn on the carousel.
Even though Ann doesn't look too thrilled here, she really did enjoy the ride.
Group picture of the carousel riders :)
There is a little cafe at the store and so we had lunch. Most of our sandwiches came with little umbrellas on them, and Ann loved playing with them.
Playing with the demo toys in the store (notice the umbrellas in Tom's hand....)
Climbing up on the fence to get a better view of the....
....Llamas!! The llamas were much more visible this year, which was a lot of fun.
Reading books in the book section of the store
One last ride on the carousel before it was time to leave. It was just me and Ann this time. I decided to just stand by her instead of riding, as I didn't want to go riding up and down and around.
Okay, so this doesn't have to do with anything we did this weekend, but I was incredibly impressed by it. I found our little magnadoodle Saturday night and saw what Ann has last drawn on it. My heart melted seeing that she drew me and even managed to write "mom"! We haven't worked on writing (and I wasn't planning on even trying to for a good while, she's just barely 3 for goodness sake), so this was quite a surprise.
On Monday Ann and I went with Tom's parents to the little zoo at Oxbow Park (Tom stayed home to get some school work done).
Waiting patiently for Grandma and Grandpa to catch up with us so we could move on to the next thing.
Watching the black bear.
Tired girl. It wasn't overly hot that day (only around 80, and overcast), but it was really humid.
Grandpa lifting up Ann to get a better view of the lynx.
"Rise and shout the cougars are out...." :)
Tired again and decided she wanted to be carried by Grandma. Here they are checking out some goats.
Taking a peek at the turkeys
After the zoo we had a little picnic lunch and played around for a little bit before heading home. We walked across the bridge several times.
The dandelions have turned into little seed balls. Grandma showed her what to do with them.
Practicing blowing the dandelion seeds.
On Tuesday we headed over to Quarry Hill before Tom's dad had to leave for the airport. We saw a cute little goose family. Six little goslings!
Proud mama (or dad, they were both there and I didn't know which was which). They definitely let us know to not get to close to their babies.
Can you spot the turtle in the pond?
We passed over a bridge to get to a little island on the pond. We found this mama duck with her 8 babies (all piled onto each other)!
Ready to move on...
Another mama with her 5 littles. Just as we got to them, that mom was attacking one of the males by them. But she didn't seem to mind us at all, and kept moving closer.
Finally moving past the pond to go hike to the old quarry site.
Heading up the trail, stopping to watch a squirrel jump around in a tree.
On top of the old limestone quarry.
Exploring around a little.
Finally time to head home to eat lunch. We were tired so Ann got a piggy back ride :-)
