4 Years Old

I'm not quite sure how it happened, but Ann finally turned 4 earlier this month.  I can hardly believe she has been a part of our family for that long.  It has gone by so quickly.  She a wonderful, sweet, crazy, opinionated little girl.  We love her so much!

Ann is now old enough to be aware of and desire to have a birthday party with friends.  I'm not a party planner at all, and luckily Ann was totally okay with the suggestion of inviting some friends to a park to play and have cupcakes.  We decided to have the party be the day before her birthday, and we went to IBM's Woodside Park.  It's a park only for the use of family and friends of IBM employees (my Dad works there).  We thought it would be fun since it would be a park Ann's friends likely would not have been to before.

It ended up being a cool, overcast day for Ann's party.  At least it didn't rain!  My dad hung out with Ian in the car while we got things set up and waited for Ann's friends to arrive.

Nothing fancy.  The cupcakes we made were in the containers behind Ann.  We also had juice and water.

Playing around on the playground

My mom took an early lunch from work and came up for a little bit.  Her coworker gave her these reusable balloons to bring.  You pump them full of air and then let them fly through the air.  The girls had fun taking turns picking a balloon to get filled up and then chase after.

Ian was a trooper during the party, which was right during his morning nap time.  He fell asleep in Tom's arms part way through.

Singing happy birthday (I forgot to bring candles...)

Opening presents.  She has enjoyed playing with the gifts she received.

The big 4 year old on her birthday!  I convinced Ann to let me take a few pictures of her quickly

I was making some silly noises to get a genuine smile from her

She requested McDonald's for lunch (or as Ann calls it, "Old McDonald's" - I think it's too cute she calls it that to try and correct her).  We went to one with a play place so she got to play for a while after eating.

Her other requested activity was going to this smoothie place (I can't remember what it was called, but she had been there before once with my mom and really wanted to go back).

Ian had fun sampling my smoothie

Wore herself out having fun!  She fell asleep on the way home.

After dinner we invited my parents over to open her birthday presents (though in hindsight, we should have opened her gifts earlier in the day so she could have had more time to play with them.  It was really hard to get her to go to bed).

Ian came to help with the wrapping paper!

A new dress from Grandma and Grandpa Polley

My mom included a little pinwheel with their present (Ann really likes pinwheels)

More legos!

A new ball!  When we asked Ann what she wanted for her birthday, one of the things she consistently said was that she wanted a big, purple ball.

Her "4" cake!  She has been talking about having a 4 cake when she turns 4 pretty much since she turned 3 last year.  She has already started to talk about her 5 cake for next year.

Blowing out the candles

The happy birthday girl!  She had a fun day

This was the next morning wearing the new princess dress we gave her

All dressed ready to head off to church in her new dress (the first thing she said when putting it on was "I look like a pink bird!", and then proceeded to run around the apartment saying "tweet tweet").
