UP!

Happy Halloween!!  Later tonight or tomorrow I'll get pictures posted of Ann dressed up for Halloween.  Like last year, we'll just "trick-or-treat" over to my parents' house.

As Ann's gotten older she has, as expected, learned to say various words (for my own record the words we've heard her use include: duck, cup, tub, diaper, all done, again, daddy, mommy, cat, moo (for cow), shoes, ball, baby).  However, out of all of the words she says, the one she says perfectly, and the one we heard the most frequently, is "UP!"  I hear this word all.the.time.  She says it when she runs over to our bed and wants to get up on (and she'll say it when she wants down too...we're working on that), she says it when she wants to be picked up, she'll even say it to herself as she's climbing onto a chair or the couch.

In conjunction with the "up" expressions, Ann has been going through a phase of wanting to be held quite often (usually by me).  If I can't/don't pick her up right away when she wants up, she usually will fuss while trying to push me away from whatever I'm doing and tug on my clothes.  I've learned to a variety of things while holding a toddler on my hip.  This would include brushing my teeth, putting on makeup (eyeliner and mascara included), and making dinner (I can't do everything, but I can open cans, pour and stir...just not chop things up).  If I need to put her down for whatever reason (sorry I can't put my contacts in while holding you...) and she's not ready to be put down, she will cling onto me like a little monkey.  And she's usually not very happy when I set her down.

The other night Ann wanted me to hold her while I made dinner, so I asked Tom to take a couple pictures of us to document all of this:

I had handed her a spoon of her own to play with while I worked.

So this isn't completely related to the rest of the post, but I just had to post this picture as well.  Yesterday Ann started doing "raspberries" on the piano bench.  So random.  If you look at the full-sized picture, you can see her slobber.
