Hogle Zoo

One of our last outings when we were in Utah was up to Hogle Zoo.  The only other zoo the kids had been to was a the small little one at Oxbow Park just outside of Rochester.  Both of the kids were very excited to go.  We went up with my old roommate Karen and her two boys, which made it a lot of fun.  I decided to not bring our big camera along, so the only pictures are from my phone.

Just inside the entrance of the zoo was this big ball that was sitting on water.  You can move it over the water, which felt quite nice on that hot summer day.  Ian loved it so much, it was hard tearing him away from it.  And yes, Ian is wearing a "leash".  Tom and I decided to get one for him since it would just be me with the kids (with no stroller), and Ian's lately been against holding my hand and likes to take off running in the opposite direction.  Ian definitely didn't like it, but it did serve its purpose.  I did feel a little self conscious about using it, as I know people can be pretty judgmental about such things, but it was nice to not have to worry that he was going to take off and disappear if I took 2 seconds to look at something other than him.  I am now 2 for 2 when it comes to having "runner" toddlers.

Ann was really excited to get to see the giraffes, especially because she had just gotten new pajamas that had a giraffe on it.

Ian had gotten new pajamas too, but with monkeys - so Ann was excited for him to get to see the monkeys :)  (Ian was happy to see them too)

There was a carousel that we got to ride on.  Ann was on the kangaroo.  She was bummed that we only rode the carousel once

Ian was on the cheetah.  He liked the ride...

....but insisted on hugging me the entire time

We played at the splash pad/park area to cool off.

Playing in the "boat" at the park area

We stopped to see the mommy and baby giraffe on our way out of the zoo

The humidity and heat of the day made Ian's curls more prominent

That evening Ian wanted to wear his bear harness again (you can take the leash part off so it's just a cute little bear on your back)

He had fun dumping water from the bucket into the watering can

And then pouring it back into the bucket

Bonus picture of a beautiful flower in Aunt Jennifer's back yard.
